On this page
Filha da Lua Eco Lodge (Praia das Minas, Pipa, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil) is a Tier 1: 100% Dedicated Facility for dining: according to its website, the lodge's ocean-view restaurant is 100% gluten-free, and every dish is "totally free of gluten & lactose." As of our last check on 2026-Oct-20, it has 17 bungalows and villas above the beach.
That makes it one of the very few places to stay in South America where a celiac traveler doesn't have to negotiate every meal. It's a small, eco-focused beach lodge on Brazil's northeast coast, between the cities of Natal and João Pessoa, with yoga, a spa and ocean sports on the doorstep.

Why It Stands Out for Celiacs
Most hotels in South America treat gluten-free as a special request handled in a shared kitchen. Filha da Lua was set up the other way round. According to NeoFeed's 2022 profile, the Belgian couple who own it planned a gluten-free and lactose-free hotel from the start, after finding nothing similar on the market, and the restaurant opened as the first fully gluten- and lactose-free restaurant in Rio Grande do Norte. The lodge opened in December 2020.
Its website describes the restaurant's menu as "inspired by years of exotic travels," with aromatic spices, adaptogens and tonic herbs, and "carefully crafted gluten- and lactose-free versions of beloved global flavors." The kitchen says it draws on Ayurvedic principles and traditional Chinese medicine. Much of the produce comes from the group's own Pachamama Farm, an organic agroforestry farm in nearby Sibaúma, according to the lodge's site.
What to watch
- The Cicchetti restaurants aren't covered. The lodge promotes two Italian small-plates restaurants under the same group. Nothing on its website says they're gluten-free, so don't assume the lodge's standard applies there.
- Rooms have kitchenettes or pantries. Some bungalows have a kitchenette or a pantry with a mini-fridge. That doesn't affect the restaurant, but it means food from outside can reach the rooms, so it's not a gluten-free property in every corner.
- The website doesn't describe a celiac protocol such as supplier checks or testing. The tier here reflects the lodge's own statement that its restaurant serves no gluten at all. Ask about anything bought in, like bread or snacks, if it matters to you.
Rooms and Setting
According to its website, Filha da Lua has 17 rooms in four types:
- Moon Villa: Over 172 square metres, for families or small groups of up to four, with ocean or garden pool views.
- Sea View Superior Deluxe Bungalow: 82 square metres, with a private balcony, kitchenette and walk-in closet.
- Superior Deluxe Bungalow: 82 square metres, looking over the dune garden or treetops, some with a private pool.
- Deluxe Bungalow: Ground-floor bungalows facing the gardens or the indoor garden pool.
The lodge sits on Praia das Minas, surrounded by sand dunes facing the Atlantic, about 10 minutes from the centre of Pipa according to NeoFeed.
Wellness and Activities
The website lists a spa with a sauna, steam room, garden pool and open-air treatment rooms, offering holistic and Ayurvedic treatments. Morning yoga sessions are complimentary, with private evening classes on request, and there are gong baths and Animal Flow movement sessions.
For the ocean, the lodge points guests to the KiteMaster school for kitesurfing, wingfoiling and foiling lessons. It also lists surfing at several spots, stand-up paddleboarding, boat trips on the Curimataú River delta, horseback rides on the beach and visits to an Atlantic sea turtle nesting site.
Booking Logistics & How to Get There
- Fly in: Natal International Airport (NAT) is the closest, about 100 km away according to the lodge. João Pessoa (about 140 km) and Recife (about 260 km) are alternatives.
- Transfer: The lodge offers private airport transfers by car or van; you can also rent a car or take a taxi.
- Before you arrive: Tell the reservations team about any other allergies when you book, and if you plan to eat at the Cicchetti restaurants, ask them directly how they handle celiac orders. Reservations are handled through [email protected], according to the website.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Filha da Lua Eco Lodge completely gluten-free?
Its own restaurant is. The lodge's website describes it as a "100% gluten-free restaurant" where every dish is free of gluten and lactose. The group's two Cicchetti restaurants, which are off the lodge grounds, aren't described as gluten-free.
Is the food at Filha da Lua also dairy-free?
Yes. According to the website, everything at the lodge restaurant is also lactose-free, with a focus on organic, locally sourced and additive-free ingredients.
Do I need to tell the lodge I have celiac disease?
It's still worth it. The restaurant doesn't serve gluten, but telling the team helps them plan for any other allergies and flag anything bought in from outside.
How we check: each listing shows its kitchen tier and when we last checked it. "Confirmed" means the property answered our 10-point kitchen questionnaire in writing. Kitchens and menus change, so always tell the property about celiac disease before you arrive.
