Dedicated Gluten-Free Resorts & Retreats Around the World: Side-by-Side Comparison of Prices, Locations & Kitchen Rules (2026-2027)
Our 2026-2027 directory of resorts, hotels and retreats that describe themselves as fully gluten-free, where wheat, barley and rye aren't allowed in the kitchen.

On this page
As of our last check on 2026-Oct-20, these are the five resorts, boutique hotels and B&Bs we've found so far that describe themselves as fully gluten-free (one of them is currently under review), meaning wheat, barley, rye and uncertified oats aren't supposed to enter the kitchen at all. There are almost certainly others we haven't found yet. Unlike resorts that simply offer a "gluten-free menu" cooked in a shared kitchen, these properties aim to keep gluten out at the supply stage. Published rates run from about $185 USD a night at a European beachfront hotel to $1,895+ USD for a 7-night retreat package in Costa Rica.
This directory is built from each property's published information and public reviews. We haven't inspected these kitchens ourselves, and policies change, so always confirm directly with the property before you book.
Why "Gluten-Free Friendly" Often Fails Celiac Travelers
Research suggests that as little as 10 to 50 milligrams of gluten a day, a tiny fraction of a slice of bread, can damage the small intestine in people with celiac disease. When standard hotels advertise "gluten-free options," those meals are often prepared on shared prep tables, baked in ovens where wheat flour is in the air, or fried in oil shared with breaded food.
Our 3-Tier Celiac Hospitality Classification separates fully gluten-free properties from shared-kitchen resorts:
- Tier 1: 100% Dedicated Facility: No gluten is allowed in the property's kitchens or dining rooms.
- Tier 2: Dedicated Separate Kitchen: The resort serves gluten in some restaurants, but runs a physically separate gluten-free kitchen with its own ovens, fryers and equipment.
- Tier 3: Verified Celiac Protocol: Shared kitchens that follow strict cross-contact procedures, such as dedicated fryers, color-coded cookware, sealed allergen storage and chef oversight, sometimes backed by a national celiac association program (such as Italy's AIC or Spain's FACE).

Detailed Breakdown of Each Property
1. Anamaya Resort (Montezuma, Nicoya Peninsula, Costa Rica)
Anamaya Resort is an ocean-view boutique eco-resort and wellness retreat on Costa Rica's Nicoya Peninsula, the same peninsula as the Nicoya Blue Zone. Anamaya has moved its whole kitchen to 100% gluten-free, with a focus on organic, farm-to-table food.
- Kitchen Protocol: According to the resort, no wheat, barley, rye or conventional soy sauce enters the kitchen. Sauces use gluten-free tamari, and baked goods are made in-house with cassava (yuca), almond, coconut and green plantain flours.
- Ideal Traveler: Solo travelers, couples and yoga or surf lovers who want a structured 7-night retreat with saunas, cold plunges, waterfall hikes and aerial silk classes.
- Pricing: 7-night all-inclusive retreat packages (3 meals a day, accommodation, yoga and excursions) start from $1,895 USD in a shared room. Private room prices vary by season and room.
2. Hotel Cuna del Angel (Dominical, South Pacific, Costa Rica)
Located south of Dominical along Costa Rica's Costanera Sur, Hotel Cuna del Angel is a small boutique jungle hotel.
- Kitchen Protocol: Travel sites and guest reviews describe the hotel's restaurant, La Palapa, as 100% gluten-free, with breads, pasta and pastries made without gluten. Non-celiac guests eat from the same menu. We haven't been able to confirm that the whole property, beyond the restaurant, is gluten-free, so ask the hotel directly.
- Ideal Traveler: Nature lovers, birdwatchers and couples exploring Manuel Antonio and Marino Ballena National Parks who prefer a nightly hotel booking to a scheduled group retreat.
- Pricing: Published nightly rates run from about $210 to $310 USD depending on season, including a gluten-free breakfast.
3. Hotel Fenice (Milano Marittima, Emilia-Romagna, Italy)
Set directly on the Adriatic coast, Hotel Fenice is a family-run seaside hotel that markets itself as "Hotel Fenice Gluten Free," with completely gluten-free cooking for all guests.
- Kitchen Protocol: According to the hotel's listings, the whole menu, including themed dinner nights, is gluten-free. Because every dish on the buffet is meant to be gluten-free, the usual worry about another guest dropping a crumb into a serving tray is much smaller. Older listings mention meals certified for celiacs; check the hotel's current certification status directly.
- Ideal Traveler: Families with celiac children and European beach vacationers who want easy half-board or full-board dining. The hotel is seasonal (roughly late May to mid-September).
- Pricing: Seasonal nightly rates start around €170 ($185 USD) per night with half-board dining.
4. Inn on Randolph (Napa Valley, California, USA): Under review
Under review. In 2025, one celiac guest reported finding wheat in the inn's kitchen and another was told there was no gluten-free breakfast, so we can't currently recommend it as a dedicated gluten-free stay.
Located in a historic residential district a short walk from downtown Napa, the Inn on Randolph is a luxury bed and breakfast with rooms in the historic inn plus private cottages.
- Kitchen Protocol: Travel writers describe it as a dedicated gluten-free B&B, serving a two-course gluten-free breakfast each morning. Given the 2025 guest reports above, confirm current arrangements with the inn in writing before you book.
- Ideal Traveler: Couples, wine lovers and weekend travelers visiting Northern California.
- Pricing: Published rates for rooms and cottages run from about $349 to $650 USD per night.
5. The Inn Berlin (Berlin, Maryland, USA)
Close to Assateague Island and Ocean City on Maryland's Eastern Shore, The Inn Berlin is a boutique bed and breakfast and event venue in historic Berlin.
- Kitchen Protocol: Local listings describe the inn as 100% gluten-free, with a gluten-free bakery that's also open to the public, and say the innkeeper has celiac disease. Breakfast is served to all guests; other meals need to be arranged before you arrive.
- Ideal Traveler: East Coast road-trippers and couples looking for a coastal B&B escape.
- Pricing: Nightly rates are described as running from about $225 to $315 USD, including breakfast.
Close, but Not Fully Dedicated: The Retreat Costa Rica
The Retreat Costa Rica, a luxury wellness resort in Atenas, is often listed elsewhere as fully gluten-free. Its own website says only its main restaurant serves a fully gluten-free menu (also dairy-free and free of refined sugar), and it doesn't say gluten is kept out of the whole property. We list it as Tier 3: Verified Celiac Protocol for now. 7-night wellness packages start around $4,200 USD. Read our full write-up: The Retreat Costa Rica audit.
Tier 2 Runner-Ups: Resorts with Separate Gluten-Free Kitchens
If you're traveling somewhere without a fully gluten-free property, these resorts are described as running separate gluten-free prep areas. We haven't confirmed these details, so ask each resort how its gluten-free meals are prepared:
- Grand Velas Riviera Maya & Los Cabos (Mexico): 5-star luxury all-inclusive with a gluten-free culinary concierge and separate allergen prep areas ($950+ USD/night).
- Sandals Emerald Bay & Sandals Royal Caribbean (Bahamas & Jamaica): Couples-only all-inclusives with allergen-aware preparation and chef-guided meal planning ($650+ USD/night).
- Vitality Hotel Punta (Lošinj Island, Croatia): Wellness hotel with a gluten-free program and separate gluten-free kitchen ($240+ USD/night).
- Fivelements Retreat (Ubud, Bali, Indonesia): Plant-based healing retreat where most of the menu is naturally gluten-free ($380+ USD/night).
Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between a 100% dedicated gluten-free resort and a celiac-friendly hotel?
A 100% dedicated gluten-free resort doesn't allow wheat, barley or rye in its kitchen at all, which removes flour in the air and gluten on shared surfaces. A celiac-friendly hotel serves gluten to other guests and relies on staff procedures to keep gluten-free meals separate.
Which country has the most fully gluten-free resorts?
Of the properties we've found so far, Costa Rica has the most: Anamaya Resort and Hotel Cuna del Angel (whose restaurant is described as fully gluten-free). Italy has a large number of hotels in its national celiac association's (AIC) program, including fully gluten-free properties like Hotel Fenice.
Are buffets safe at 100% dedicated gluten-free resorts?
Buffets at standard hotels are one of the biggest sources of cross-contact, because of shared tongs and dropped crumbs. At a property where every dish on the buffet is gluten-free, like Anamaya Resort or Hotel Fenice, that problem largely goes away. Still tell the kitchen about your celiac disease, and ask about any packaged or outside food.
How we check: each listing shows its kitchen tier and when we last checked it. "Confirmed" means the property answered our 10-point kitchen questionnaire in writing. Kitchens and menus change, so always tell the property about celiac disease before you arrive.
